My biology teacher recommended the ”khanacademy” website, and I think it is very useful, especially for the visual/aural learners.

This week at ‘MedDENT’ we have been discussing briefly about how to mange our time and start revising. We are going to have a senior pupil come in next week and talk to us about revising well 🙂 I am aware of the grade requirements for medicine at university, and so I need to start making good use of my time from now onwards until my exams……Gill 🙂

Music Therapy

I read that —-> ”music therapy is a good way to encourage children with autism to improve skills in areas such as communication, social skills, sensory issues and behaviour. Music experiences strike a chord with a particular person, making personal connections and building trust.” http://autism.about.com/od/autismtherapy101/a/musictherapy.htm

My younger brother is on the autism spectrum, and he is often especially interested in and responsive to music. I feel that music is motivating and engaging for him. when playing particular songs I usually find that he opens up to me much more.
The only problem I find is that it can get very repetitive and he gets upset when the song is changed. It could even end up in him throwing a tantrum…..

SPLASH OF AUTISM

I just want to highlight a type of therapy that more agencies seem to be offering. That is music therapy. Music therapy has many benefits for children and adults with autism or special needs. It can encourage speech or gross motor skills such as crawling – read about Matthew Dinkel and Emma Dislers (links are attached). I found out that music therapy has helped Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords with speech. This therapy benefits developmental, physical, and psychological functioning.

Here are some organizations that offer music therapy for individuals with autism or special needs.

Hi I’m Gillian Kintu. I am 17 year old student at Christ’s Hospital Boarding school. ——>      I am currently taking my AS levels ‘Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Drama’. My friends and I have decided to set up this blog, to keep an update, once a week; of the things I get up to, in order to help this process. We have also set up a small group where we meet once a week to discuss Medical and dentistry topics, ethical problems, medical breakthroughs, UKCAT and BMAT practise and generally applying for medical/dentistry. If anyone is interested in the topics I will be discussing, please feel free to follow and comment, sharing any news, stories, tips or experiences. Hope you enjoy!!
